The search for the remains of a 5-year-old Glendale girl at the Butterfield Landfill 17 miles west of Maricopa is more than 75 percent complete.

Officer Tracey Breeden, a public information officer with the Glendale Police Department, said there is no “set end date” for the search as reported by the Associated Press.

“We will notify and brief media when we get close to completion,” Breeden said Thursday. “We are over 75 percent complete at the landfill, and we believe we could be out there through the month of June.”

However, Breeden said it could take several more weeks to complete the search of the cell where authorities speculate the girl’s remains might be located.

“It depends on several factors and circumstances including weather and equipment,” she said.
