Little League holding hit-a-thon to raise funds

Maricopa residents should not be alarmed if children with baseball bats are knocking on their door.

All this week, Maricopa Little League players are in fundraising mode, asking family members, friends and anyone else for a small donation to help support the league.

“Our sponsorship is down this year and we needed a way to raise more money,” said Don Kramer, Maricopa Little League coach.

The Little Leaguer who brings in the most money will be awarded a prize and part of the funds will be used to help support the league’s first “hit-a-thon” event scheduled for this Saturday at Pacana Park.

The event will allow the junior ballplayers to hit three balls off of a tee, with prizes being awarded for the farthest hit, and most combined points for a team. All participants will receive a T-shirt.

“This is something different and fun for the kids,” Kramer said. “This event is going to be a lot of fun, and we hope the community comes out to support the kids.”
