The Maricopa Little League held their closing ceremonies Saturday morning at Pacana Park with a large crowd of players, families and friends on hand for the event.

“This was definitely our biggest turn out yet,” Program Director Tami Delgado said.

Friends and families of the players lined the outfield and filled the bleachers with chairs, umbrellas and water bottles. Despite the 9 a.m. start time, the temperature increased rapidly during the ceremony.

Each team was called according to division, starting with t-ball and ending with the Majors division.

Some teams ran around the bases together, while others let the most energetic members go around alone. One team decided to see how it felt to run the bases backwards from third base to first base.

For the Minor and Major divisions of softball and baseball, the first place teams were awarded medals, and every team received trophies for their participation.

After the teams were announced, the umpires and volunteers received thanks for their hard work during the season.

All-star team selections made up the final announcements of the ceremony. There were four teams announced for the minor and major divisions of baseball and softball. The selected teams will play against other all-star teams in the area.

The baseball teams will play in Maricopa July 7 – 10, and the softball teams will play the second week of July in Casa Grande.

More information on the all-star games will be posted on the Maricopa Little League website soon.
