Get ready, get set…‘jump around!’ Maricopa will host the Grand Canyon State Games Jump Rope tournament Feb. 20 at Maricopa Wells Middle School. This is Maricopa’s second year hosting the Jump Rope competition.

Last year, local competition and performance team, the Copa Cobras, medaled in all categories. This year, the Copa Cobras bring 14 jumpers to the tournament, five of whom earned medals in 2009.

The team, coached by Teresa and Ceara Bourquin of Maricopa, has performed at several local events such as Founders Day and the Salsa Festival.

The Grand Canyon State Games is a multi-sport Olympic-style festival for Arizona amateur athletes of all ages and abilities. The Games is organized by the Arizona Sports Council and is affiliated with 47 other state games throughout the United States. It is sanctioned by the U.S. Olympic Committee through the National Congress of State Games. The Games seeks to provide Arizonans with an avenue for personal development through sports. Each year, more than 30,000 amateur athletes participate.
