Plant sale, history presentation at MAC this weekend

The Maricopa Agricultural Center is hosting two major events Saturday.

The annual Spring Plant Sale, presented by Maricopa Master Gardeners, and The History of Maricopa, presented by the Maricopa Historical Society, both run from 8 a.m. to noon.

The Spring Plant Sale will be in the demonstration garden (follow the signs). In case of rain it will be set up in the covered parking lot.

Plants for sale include tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, melons, eggplant, squash, herbs and more. They accept cash or check only, so leave the credit cards at home.

The History of Maricopa event will involve the local historical society, the University of Arizona, Ak-Chin Indian Community, Arizona Humanities, Gila River Indian Community and Chemehuevi Indian Tribe. The Ak Chin Him Dak Eco Museum staff will give a presentation on the Ak-Chin Community.

Jay Cravath will present “Along the California Trail.” He is the cultural director the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe. He will talk about the travelers along the western route, from the ancients to the Butterfield Overland Stage Company.

Denny Hoeh, vice president of the Maricopa Historical Society, will talk about the history of Maricopa.
