A traffic stop on Tuesday ended with the arrest of a man, who police suspect dropped multiple M30 pills into his energy drink in an attempt to dissolve them.

Eduardo Vargas was arrested and booked into Pinal County jail on suspicion of possession of narcotics, possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, false reporting and driving with a revoked license, according to Maricopa police.

At 12:42 a.m., on March 7, Maricopa police stopped a blue Chevrolet sedan near SR 347 and West Ak-Chin Parkway. The stop was made when officers said the driver, Vargas, reportedly failed to stay in his lane. Vargas, when asked, said there were no weapons or drugs in the vehicle.

According to a probable-cause statement, a records check on Vargas showed his license had been revoked and suspended since May 2017.

Officers then arrested Vargas.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found a burnt piece of foil on the passenger-side floorboard and a straw with residue inside the driver’s-side cupholder. Police reported they also found a Bang energy drink with four M30 pills.

According to Maricopa police, Vargas admitted to being addicted to the pills.
