Maricopa police arrested a man Monday evening in the Rancho El Dorado neighborhood in connection with a suspected domestic violence incident.

Officers responded to a call of a disturbance at around 10:30 p.m. on May 15 at a home in the Rancho El Dorado neighborhood near Backus and Forest drives. A witness reported an intoxicated man was allegedly “chasing and fighting” a minor.

In a probable cause statement, two witnesses in the home told police the man, Jaden Kurtz, had been drinking through the day and attempted to leave to purchase more alcohol. His wife refused to let him leave and hid the car keys, which caused Kurtz to become angry and begin yelling at her.

A minor in the home yelled at Kurtz. Both witnesses and the minor said this led to Kurtz yelling at and chasing the minor up the stairs in the home. Kurtz then punched the minor, according to a probable cause statement.

Officers found Kurtz with multiple scratch marks on his face and say that he appeared noticeably intoxicated. Kurtz told police he did chase his stepson for “talking back,” but said he did not know what happened after.

Police did not confirm if the minor had any evidence of physical injuries.

Kurtz was arrested and booked into Pinal County Jail on domestic violence charges in disorderly conduct and assault. A hearing date was not announced.
