Maricopa police arrested a man early Sunday morning in the Rancho El Dorado neighborhood in connection with a suspected domestic-violence incident.

Officers responded to a call of a disturbance at approximately 4 a.m. Feb. 5 at a home near John Wayne Parkway and Lakewood Drive. A witness told police that Fernando Ovante was engaged in a fight with the witness’s roommate and was afraid Ovante was “killing” her.

The witness told officers she fled the residence to call police after she saw Ovante punch the woman, who attempted to defend herself. Officers found the woman in the home with a swollen lip and injuries to her arm and face.

Police also found blood on Ovante’s hands, but he denied a fight took place, according to court documents.

Ovante was arrested and booked into a Pinal County jail on domestic-violence charges in assault and disorderly conduct.
