A woman and her one-year-old daughter were carjacked Sunday by an armed gunman as they drove through a Maricopa neighborhood.

The victim had stopped her vehicle for a stop sign when a man jumped into the passenger seat, pointed a gun and told the driver to take him to Mesa, according to Maricopa police.

The incident occurred in the Glennwilde subdivision.

After driving to Chandler and stopping the car in the parking lot of Circle K at Queen Creek and Price road, the woman started screaming at the man to get out of the car, police said.

A bystander witnessed the woman screaming and came to her assistance. The anonymous man approached the suspect from behind and put him in a bear hug, pulling him out of the car, according to police.

The victim immediately drove away to safety and called 911.

The incident was reported to Maricopa police. Officers from the Chandler Police Department immediately started searching for the subject and located him a short time later in the area of the Circle K, Maricopa police said.

The victim was taken back to Chandler where she was able to positively identify the suspect and he was placed under arrest, according to police.

Scott Cascio of Maricopa will be charged with multiple crimes as well as a probation warrant, police said.
