A man is accused by police of attempting to gain entry into a home before running off on Friday, Feb. 10.

Johnson E. Jones Jr. was arrested and booked on suspicion of burglary, criminal damage and criminal trespassing, according to Maricopa police.

At 9:28 a.m., Maricopa police responded to a home on West Merced Street in Tortosa on a report of a man attempting to enter the home and a parked vehicle.

The woman confronted Jones, who reportedly asked her to open the window. She told him she was calling the police, and he ran off, jumping fences into the yards of nearby homes.

A resident on West Catalan Street told officers she saw Jones in her yard and confronted him, and he jumped into the yard of another home on West Marin Avenue.

Jones was found in a backyard on West Marin, where he was arrested.

The woman who reported the incident did not speak English. Her grandson translated and told officers the man was checking the windows of the home, trying to gain entry. She later identified the man as Jones.

A records check showed Jones had an extraditable warrant for his arrest.
