A Maricopa man is facing drug charges after his arrest at Pacana Park Monday.

Joshua Roberson was charged with possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Around 6 a.m., Maricopa police were dispatched to Pacana Park for a welfare check of a man who appeared to be asleep in his vehicle. Officers approached the vehicle parked at the park entrance, finding a lighter on the pavement nearby. The man, later identified as Roberson, woke up and appeared lethargic and sweating profusely, police said.

Roberson was asked to exit the vehicle and empty his pockets. While placing the items on the roof of the car, a gray straw fell out of Roberson’s pocket. Police asked him what it was, and Roberson told them he would use it to snort pills.

While looking through the other items, police also allegedly found a small baggie of blue pills. The pills were later identified as Oxycodone, police said.

Roberson was arrested and later released.
