Police arrested a man Sunday afternoon after he allegedly threw his son into a wall and threatened him.

Derek J. Odom, 29, was charged with disorderly conduct (domestic violence) and threatening (domestic violence) after a 4:15 p.m. incident at a home on North Costa Verdez Avenue in Tortosa, police said.

Officers responded to a call of a father allegedly threatening to assault his son, according to a probable cause statement.

Police said officers were told by Odom’s wife that he came home intoxicated and was allegedly threatening his son, whose age is unknown. She alleged that Odom grabbed the victim by his left arm and dragged him from his bedroom to the living room, police said.

She also alleged that Odom threw the victim against the wall, saying “I’m going to ask you a question and if you answer it wrong, I’m going to deck you in the face.” She told police that she got between the father and son and told the son to run to his room.

When Odom fell asleep at the kitchen table, his wife left the home to call police, the probable cause statement said.

Officers spoke with the victim, who stated Odom threw him into a wall and threatened to “deck” him in the face if he answered a question wrong. He told police he was scared during the incident.

Officers spoke with Odom, who told them he came home intoxicated and dragged his son out of his room by his shirt, police said. Odom said he was jealous of his son because he went on a road trip with his grandfather (Odom’s father) before he died, but denied threatening to assault his son, police said.

Odom was booked into Pinal County Jail on the charges, police said.
