Police arrested a man after a traffic stop led to the discovery of an outstanding warrant.

Paul A. Gonzales was taken into custody about 8:20 p.m. on Jan. 15 at Honeycutt Road and State Route 347, police said.

According to a probable cause statement, an officer stopped a black Nissan Armada after observing it drift across the white fog line and into the bicycle lane. The officer made contact with Gonzales, who was driving the vehicle.

A criminal records check on Gonzales identified a warrant issued out of Western Pinal Justice Court, police said.

When Gonzales was told he would have to exit the vehicle because it would have to be towed, he protested and refused to get out of the SUV, police said.

He was again ordered out of the vehicle and told if he did not do so he would be placed under arrest, according to police. He again refused. The officer opened the door and began to pull Gonzales from the vehicle. After tensing his body and failing to comply, he was informed he would face charges of resisting arrest if he did not place his hands behind his back.

When the officer pulled out his Taser and placed it on his back, Gonzales was told he could comply or feel the effects of the electronic weapon. He then relaxed his arms and was taken into custody, the probable cause statement said.
