Arizona's primary election is Tuesday and local voters will have two different ballots to deal with this year. The city council candidates will be on a separate ballot due to an error on the original ballots mailed to early voters.

Only one of the four incumbent candidates for Maricopa City Council has raised funds for his reelection effort, according to first-quarter campaign finance reports.

Vice Mayor Vincent Manfredi spent more money than the other three candidates combined through the first quarter of this year, the documents show.

Manfredi, who is seeking a third term on City Council, had $10,652.02 in his campaign coffers that included a $5,000 personal contribution and a $5,000 personal loan. He spent $8,309.56 of those funds in the first quarter.

Councilmember Rich Vitiello, also seeking a third term, had a total of $2,182, all of it from personal funds. He had campaign expenditures in the same amount.

Candidate Adam Leach disbursed $1,679 in the first quarter, all of which was from personal funds.

Henry Wade, the third incumbent council member seeking re-election, did not file a campaign finance report because he said he has not reached the $500 contribution threshold to require financial reporting.

The four candidates will face off in the Aug. 2 primary for three seats on council. Any candidate who receives 50% plus one vote of the tallies will be elected and avoid having to run in the general election in November. A runoff will be held Nov. 8 among any candidates not garnering 50% of the vote.

Editor’s note: Vincent Manfredi is co-owner of InMaricopa.
