Maricopa has been ranked the third-safest city in Arizona by a national home-security organization.

SafeHome.org ranked Maricopa behind Oro Valley and Gilbert. Its “safety score” of 85.68 equaled Gilbert’s.

The biggest deciding factor in the rankings is the FBI’s latest report (2015) of the number and types of crimes reported in each city. SafeHome considers the population-to-officers ratio and current crime trends. Playing much less of role in the rankings are population density, unemployment and other demographic metrics.

SafeHome.org ranked the top 25 safest cities with a population of at least 38,000. Murder, robbery and assault have the biggest weight factor in scoring cities. Maricopa had 600 property crimes during the reporting period. It ranks in the top 100 in the country.
