The Maricopa City Council will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss and take action on the 2011-12 budget.

The council will hear comments from the public during the meeting, which will be at held at the school district headquarters, 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

The city has proposed an increase in the primary property tax levy for new construction. If passed, the tax levy would rise by $191,784 to $10,038,102. A second property tax levy of more than $1.4 million is proposed  to provide funds on the annual debt service on a series of city bonds.

The last agenda item is whether to approve the city’s agreement with the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, which has a cost of $21,000.

Along with the above items on the agenda, Public Information Officer LaTricia Woods said the council also may discuss its membership to the Central Arizona Regional Economic Development Foundation.

During the May 6 budget retreat, a presentation was provided by the organization’s CEO, Barry Albrecht, and it was brought to the attention of council that the membership in CAREDF had produced “no business leads.” Annual membership dues cost the city more than $60,000.

“The City Council may discuss it during the special meeting,” Woods said.

The council may discuss any line item in the budget during their discussion, she said.

“Otherwise, the contract is set to go before council on June 21,” Woods said.
