Education foundation honors teachers Saturday

During its first two teacher appreciation events, the Maricopa Education Foundation honored more than 30 local district and charter school educators for their commitments to the community, their campuses and their students.

This year the foundation wants every Maricopa teacher to know how important they are to their city.

For its third annual teacher appreciation night, the foundation has invited every Maricopa teacher – on the house – to attend an event full of food, gratitude, entertainment, and camaraderie 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes.

“As the foundation started planning this year’s event, it became apparent to our board that we need to show every teacher out there how crucial their work is to our community,” said Maricopa Education Foundation board member Brett Fera.

In April, the foundation and its event sponsors provided more than 150 free tickets to teachers who registered by a certain date. For any nonteachers interested in attending (or those teachers who weren’t able to meet the early deadline) tickets are still available at $15 each.

The evening includes dinner, a cash bar, door prizes and giveaways. Prior events were held at Maricopa Wells Middle School, but the move was made to Southern Dunes this year to create more of a “Saturday night out,” away from campus.

Those interested in purchasing tickets can do so by visiting the front office at Maricopa Unified School District campus, or email [email protected] with name, phone number and email address, and an MEF representative will get in touch to get you tickets to the event. Local businesses interested in serving as sponsors for the event may also contact MEF via email.
