When Maricopa Fire Department crews arrived, they found the child awake and crying. Then boy was transported by ambulance to Banner Health Cardon’s Children’s Medical Center in Mesa, according the fire department.

Brad Pitassi, the department’s public information officer, said the event illustrated the importance of water safety and drowning prevention.
