About 10 a.m., city of Maricopa Fire Department crews responded to a reported house fire in the 44000 block of Edwards Circle in a duplex home

As crews arrived on scene, they found smoke coming from the back of one of the homes and neighbors outside reporting a fire. Firefighters quickly entered the home, found the location of the fire through heavy smoke and extinguished the fire in the kitchen.

No one was home at the time of the fire; no firefighters were injured.

A family of three, a mother and two young children who lived in the home were displaced and the Maricopa Police Departments Victims Services is assisting the family to find temporary lodging. Professional Firefighters of Maricopa Local 4561 provided the family with additional support services that included new outfits for the young children for their upcoming class pictures.

The American Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter also provided aid in the form of food, clothing and bedding, said Red Cross communications specialist Brian Gomez.

The preliminary investigation finds the fire was caused by an electrical issue in the kitchen involving the refrigerator, according to MFD.
