Maricopa firefighters lent mutual assistance Monday at motel fire in Gila Bend.

A city hook-and-ladder truck drove 40 miles to the blaze at the Pay Less Inn motel, joining firefighters from Buckeye Valley Fire District, Buckeye, Goodyear and Avondale.

Evacuations were in progress when crews arrived and all occupants were accounted for, according to the Buckeye Valley Fire District. Crews took a defensive stance because the structure was in unstable condition.

Thirty families displaced by the fire are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The incident has been turned over to Gila Bend Fire.

There were no reported injuries at the scene, Buckeye Valley Fire District said.
