I believe most people don’t want foot and ankle surgery. It can be painful and take a long time to recover. Yet we do surgery at Maricopa Foot and Ankle on a weekly basis.

Dr. C. Jon Beecroft

Among the reasons:

Trauma/injury: Breaks, twisting of ankles, burns and landing wrong on one’s foot all can be a cause of trauma. If a break occurs, sometimes only emergency surgery can get the bones back together.

Infection: The most-common reason for surgery is infection. Examples are painful ingrown toenail and diabetic foot infections. If the infection is not controlled by our natural body immune system or if antibiotics are not working one may need a surgery to remove the infection.

Cancer: One may not think of cancer in the foot and ankle, but it does occur. We can biopsy lesions or sores, to confirm if it is cancer. If it is, we can surgically remove it and work with an oncologist to assure that proper treatment continues.

Malformations: A bunion is a common malformation of the foot and may need surgery to correct the alignment of the toe. Bone spurs, dislocated joints, hammer toes and scar tissue also are among malformations that require surgery.

Every patient has different needs. At Maricopa Foot and Ankle, each patient is treated as an individual. If we can treat a patient without surgery, that is always good.

But, when surgery is needed to improve quality of life, at Maricopa Foot and Ankle we are trained, certified and have years of experience to help.
