Maricopa High School trumpet player Jessica Garcia and string bass player Jason Baxter successfully auditioned for honor ensembles and will perform with a regional student orchestra Feb. 16.
The two were among six MHS musicians who audition Saturday during the Arizona Music Educators Association Central Region Festival of Honor.
During the auditions, held at Highland High School in Gilbert, students demonstrated their mastery with three etudes, scales and sight-reading.
Jessica was selected to the regional band and Baxter to the regional orchestra.
Both will rehearse with the regional groups Feb. 15 and Feb.16, before performing in a concert 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Mountain View High School in Mesa. Admission to the concert is $5.
The two now have the opportunity to audition for the All-State Band and Orchestra Festival at Northern Arizona University April 18 to April 20.
