Ten Maricopa High School students earned gold medals at the recent 2022 Arizona SkillsUSA State Championships.

They were among 35 students who represented the high school in the annual career competition events showcasing the best career and technical education students in Arizona. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.

Students from the graphic design, engineering, information technology and photography programs at the high school competed in the event, held April 19-20 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

Winning gold medals in their events were Charlie Liermann for information technology services; Abigail Barba for pin design; Lexie Nordhoff, Leslie Holliday, Eliza Santiago and Asher Akhavan-Restubog for community service; Nathan Shearer for internetworking; Luke Christopherson and Georgia Nickens for web design; and Christopherson, Shearer and Lorena Casto for the Career Pathway Showcase Info-Tech.

Bronze medals were won by Alex Grace and Ashton Owen for cybersecurity
and Valeria Garcia for applied technical math.

In all, MHS pupils took home a total of 15 medals. State champions will represent the high school and the state of Arizona at the SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta in June.
