The regular wrestling season came to a close last weekend when six Rams finished in the top three at the Bourgade Invitational Tournament.

JD Masterson, Hunter Field and Travis Moore all came home with first place honors, Cody Seymore earned second place and Frank Acuna and Xavier Hefty won third place.

Junior Masterson finished his season with a 45-4 record and now hopes to add a state championship to his list of accomplishments. Even bigger goals for Masterson include a national title and scholarship to wrestler in college.

He and the rest of the Rams will get the chance to earn their spot at the championship tournament when the regional competition is held in Safford on Saturday. The top three wrestlers from each weight class will move on to the championship which will be held Feb. 8 and 9 at Jobing.com Arena.

“I’m anticipating a real good turnout,” Coach Jason Burr said.

Burr added although the team did not win enough dual meets to earn a spot at championships as a team he is confident all of his wrestlers will make it as individuals.

The Rams accumulated a combined record of 217-73 for the season lead by Masterson (45-4), Ty Mundt (40-4), Acuna (36-12), Seymore (23-7), and Field (35-13).
