A Maricopa man was sentenced Friday to nearly 17 years in prison after previously pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

Brent Edwin Justin, 32, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge John J. Tuchi in Phoenix, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona. His sentence calls for five years of supervised release after his prison term.

Justin, an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Community, shot a victim multiple times March 1, 2020 on the Indian Community, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. The victim died.

The Gila River Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation in this case. Raynette Logan, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix, handled the prosecution.
