Students and parents of the Maricopa Unified School District will be seeing some familiar faces at McDonald’s starting Sept. 9.

The local restaurant will be hosting a series of McTeacher’s Night Challenges to help raise money for local elementary schools.

The events will run from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and 20 percent of the inside sales will go to the school working the registers.

“This challenge is a good time for kids to come in and see their teachers in a different element,” said Michelle Slayton, one of the owners of the Maricopa McDonald’s.

Slayton added that she has hosted the event at other stores she owns, and the turnout is always amazing.

“We leave the marketing up to the schools, and often times they will have their band come out and people will be lined up out the door,” Slayton said.

During these challenges each school’s principal will be on hand, along with up to 10 teachers. These teachers will run the register, greet the guests and may even flip the occasional burger.

Each night the challenge is held a portion of the profits will go to the school participating.

The first school that will take part in the challenge is Santa Cruz on Sept. 9, then the order is as follows: Sept. 10 – Santa Rosa, Sept. 11 – Butterfield, Sept. 16 – Pima Butte, Sept. 17 – Saddleback and Sept.18 – Maricopa Elementary.

The school that raises the most money during the challenge will receive an additional $1,000 donation.

“We are new to the community and would like to get to know the schools. This serves as a great relationship builder,” Slayton said.
