The First Annual Maricopa Mutt March will take place in Maricopa Meadows on Sunday, November 5, 2006. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the City of Maricopa Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department for a special dog park fund.

Registrants will choose between taking their dogs on a short march (.25 mile) and a long march (2.5 miles). There will be a Pet Expo, rescue groups, demonstrations by the Pinal County K-9 unit and Sonoran Search and Rescue, discounted micro chipping, a licensing clinic and contests for mutts and their families. There will also be food for sale, so families can picnic near the lake if they like.

Registration forms can be picked up at local veterinary offices and groomers or can be downloaded from the official Maricopa Mutt March Web site. All pre-registrants will receive a Mutt March t-shirt, and each dog will receive a Mutt March bandana.

The Mutt March planning committee is actively looking for local businesses and families to help sponsor the event. Sponsorship opportunities are outlined on the Mutt March Web site, and the application is available for download. Rayne Water and local representative Brennen Carr will be providing bottled water for dogs and owners alike, and 1st Impressions Ink is donating to help with t-shirt and bandana costs.

Pet-related vendors are welcome to have a booth in the Pet Expo and are encouraged to go to the Web site for more information and an application. The planning committee is also seeking local rescue groups to come out and provide information and adoption opportunities to the public.

The Maricopa Mutt March has received support from the City of Maricopa, and, more specifically, from Marty McDonald, Director of the Parks, Recreation, and Libraries Department. Informational fliers will soon be distributed in Maricopa schools.

With the support of the city and the vast dog-loving community in
Maricopa, this event is expected to be a huge success as a fun-filled family event and a fundraiser to give Maricopa dogs a place to let loose.
