Maricopa Police arrested local resident Joseph Anthony Yee Saturday night in a suspected road-rage incident on State Route 347 that started near the Gila River Bridge and left one man shot.

Three cars were involved – Yee was driving between a wife and husband traveling in separate vehicles – according to a MPD press release. About 11:57 p.m., officers discovered the suspect reportedly was tailgating the wife when the husband in the third vehicle passed the suspect’s car and stopped in the middle of SR 347 to confront Yee.

Police report the two yelled at each other and Yee is suspected of shooting the husband in the right leg with a .38 caliber revolver. No other weapons were found.

Police said Yee does not have a criminal history.

The victim was transported to Maricopa Medical Center with nonlife threatening injuries. Neither Yee nor the victim’s wife needed medical attention. Police said alcohol likely was a factor in the crime.

Yee was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and endangerment.
