Maricopa police arrested Issac Clifton, 35, of Los Angeles, early Monday morning on suspicion of having ¾ pounds of marijuana in a duffle bag.

Officers spotted Clifton loitering at the Shell gas station at 19680 N. John Wayne Parkway at 1:30 a.m. while they were conducting business checks. The suspect told officers he was traveling from California to Phoenix and had just got off the Amtrak train.

He also told officers he had a small amount of marijuana in his pocket. He consented to a search and a 2-gram package of marijuana was found.

When Clifton became evasive when questioned, the police department’s K-9 unit was called to assist. The K9 did a cursory search and alerted officers to a duffle bag belonging to the suspect.

The bag contained 378 grams of marijuana the suspect said was for personal use. There was a total of 380 grams of marijuana in his possession.

Clifton was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on suspicion of several felony drug charges including possession of marijuana, transportation of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
