The victim of the Tuesday morning shooting at Arizona Grain, Inc. at approximately 2:30 a.m. has been identified as Orlando Requena, 26, of Casa Grande.

Police did not know if Requena was married, but did say he was a father. Authorities did not say how many children he had.

Requena, employed at Arizona Grain for two years as a train worker, was in the offloading area to the north of the Arizona Grain and Pinal Feeding CO, Inc. buildings on Cowtown Road.

The suspect, who is believed to be between 5-feet 8-inches and 6-feet, was wearing a dark ski mask when he entered the offloading area and shot Requena multiple times with a handgun, according the Maricopa Police Department.

“It appears the suspect caught the victim off guard,” said Jenny Alsidez, MPD public information officer.

Police said no words were exchanged between the shooter and the victim, although the shooting was likely intentional.

The lone witness to the shooting ran to the main office and told the employee there to call 911.

Four employees were working at the time, she said.

The offloading area was not secured by a lock and Alsidez said with the train near the area “would be very, very loud.”

Police were still investigating the area, where they found shell casings, at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Plans are to review a surveillance tape of the area and Alsidez said police are “following several leads” although there is no person of interest yet.
