Mark Goodman was sworn in as Maricopa’s Chief of Police inside City Hall on Tuesday, more than one month after he joined the department.

Goodman was sworn-in by Presiding Judge Stephen McCarville in front of a large crowd during a City Council meeting. After the ceremony, Goodman took time to share his vision of public safety in the city.

“Through community partnerships and relationships, Maricopa Police Department will ensure public safety for those who live, work and play in this city and will be an integral part of unlocking the full potential of the City of Maricopa,” Goodman said.

“We’re so glad that he’s with us,” Mayor Nancy Smith said. “I know he will provide wonderful leadership for the City of Maricopa and keep us in the top five of the safest cities.”

Following Chief James Hughes’ unexpected resignation in September, Goodman was selected in December to lead the Maricopa Police Department. He officially joined the department on Jan. 23, emphasizing a focus on community policing.

Before coming to Maricopa, Goodman spent 28 years working with the Pasadena, Calif. Police Department, where he rose from a patrol officer to commander.
