The city’s shopping landscape is poised for change.

Marshalls soon will open its Maricopa store in Sonoran Creek Marketplace at 20250 N. John Wayne Pkwy., although 10 days later than initially scheduled. The opening has been pushed back to Sunday, Nov. 13, according to company spokesperson Holly Taylor.

No reason for the delay was given.

Opening festivities at the new big-box are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to Taylor. Regular store hours will be Monday-Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sundays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The 22,000-square-foot store is next to Sprouts Farmer’s Market. The store offers a wide selection of merchandise for women, men, juniors and children as well as shoes, accessories, home items, pet and beauty.

“Our new store will offer shoppers a rapidly changing selection of high-quality, on-trend and brand-name merchandise at amazing prices,” said Holly Taylor, a spokesperson for Marshalls’ parent company TJX Companies. “We consider a variety of factors when we choose store locations. We believe our customers will find the same fashion and value that they’ve come to expect from Marshalls in this new location.”

Marshalls will employ about 60 full-time and part-time workers.

Marshalls’ president Tim Miner said the company’s success is driven by quality and selection.

“We’re excited to bring this experience and exceptional values from fashion and beauty to home and more to a new neighborhood,” Minor said. “With thousands of new items delivered to our stores every day, we strive to provide our shoppers with amazing brands every time they shop.”

In celebration of its new Maricopa location, Marshalls will contribute to the local community by donating $10,000 to a local charity. Marshalls also has national and local partnerships with charitable organizations around the country including JDRF, Alzheimer’s Association and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Quinn Konold, the city’s communications manager, said Marshalls’ arrival reflects city leaders’ economic-development efforts.

“We are excited to see the Sonoran Creek Marketplace continue to fill out with a variety of exciting tenants that give residents the opportunity to shop locally,” Konold said. “Maricopa continues to make important inroads in creating a business-friendly environment that is rising to the challenge of meeting the retail needs of this rapidly-growing community.”

Nathan Steele, the city’s chief economic-development officer, said earlier this year that Maricopa will benefit from more than just another shopping option.

“Maricopans spend $25.9 million on clothing outside of Maricopa,” Steele said in July. “Bringing in more and more options, such as Marshalls, will strengthen the Maricopa economy and keep those dollars here.”

The Maricopa store will be Marshalls’ 16th in Arizona. It has 1,100 stores currently operating in 48 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
