Ten DECA Club students successfully represented Maricopa High School at the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta May 2-7.

Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) is a student-centered organization that teaches leadership and personal development to students enrolled in marketing education classes.

The Maricopa Sports and Entertainment Marketing Team Decision Marketing “duo” of Niles Getz and Aaron Tamaddon made the top 20 international finalists for their event, according to a district press release.

“Their success is a remarkable improvement for both MHS and Arizona DECA,” club sponsor Bernadette Russoniello said. “They were among less than 20 students from an Arizona delegation of 300 to advance to the finals.”

Russoniello said, “Six of our 10 ICDC competitors received recognition for placing in the top 30 percent of ICDC competitors, for both test scores and case study scores. Last year, two of seven students received this honor.”

More than 16,000 students from across the U.S., Canada, China and Spain participate in this annual international competition, according to the report.

“The District is very proud of the students' outstanding accomplishments and the exceptional work throughout the school year from Mrs. Russoniello,” the release stated.***ADVERTISEMENT***
