MHS fight song, district communication plan top Wednesday’s governing board agenda

On Wednesday the Maricopa Unified School District’s governing board will hold their only regularly scheduled meeting for the month of December, with the exception of a special meeting held on Dec. 9.

That meeting was called to discuss placing the district’s budget override back on the ballot after its initial failure on Nov. 3 (see related story). Board members voted to approve, adopting a resolution for the question to appear on the March 9 election ballot.

Following a 5 p.m. study session to discuss governing board policies, Sections D-G, the regular board meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

One of the first items on the agenda will be the suspension of a policy that currently reads regular board meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month. That policy must be suspended and then modified to reflect the current scheduled meetings on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.

During the study session portion of the meeting, the district’s communication plan will be presented, as well as the special education department assessment and a possible date change for this June’s high school graduation.

The Maricopa High School Student Council has amended the school’s fight song to make it less negative and ambiguous. Members of the governing board will be asked to approve that revision.

Director of Business Services Aron Rausch will present the monthly financial report and the district’s 2009-2010 second budget revision for board approval. The district will probably have two to three additional revisions before the budget is submitted to the Arizona Department of Education.

Finally, the board will be asked to approve a Guaranteed Maximum Price of just over $3 million for Phase II of the transportation center. The project includes bus bays and small vehicle repair bays, offices for mechanics and dispatchers, a training center for bus drivers and a lunch/lounge area for those employees.
