The MHS girls’ varsity basketball team picked up a dominating 63-34 road win over Empire High School in Tucson Friday night, bringing their record to 11-1 overall and 8-0 in region play.

The Lady Rams jumped out to a 19-4 first quarter lead and never looked back. Balanced scoring and tenacious defense have been hallmarks of this year’s team.

Those trends continued Friday night when the Ram’s had 12 steals and three players scored in double figures. Amanda Hamm led the way with 19 points, Julia Dickerson added 17 and Erin Litchfield scored 15.

The win over Empire was the first game of a grueling stretch of five consecutive road games, which will take them to Fountain Hills, Safford, Santa Cruz and Florence. The Lady Rams close out the regular season with home games on Feb. 10 vs. Globe and on Feb.13 vs. Fountain Hills.
