MHS softball posting winning record

Maricopa High School’s varsity softball team thumped Paradise Valley 15-0 Monday to move its overall record to 3-2.

Sophomore Karyn Meier batted 4-for-4 in the game with a home run and two doubles, knocking in four runs. Senior Chantel Holguin had three hits and drove home two. Sophomore Evone Santiago and junior Kiana Miller-Gomez had two hits apiece.

Santiago no-hit the Trojans (0-7) to get the win on the mound by striking out seven through five innings.

Through five games, Santiago leads the team batting with an average of .667. Sophomore Maquela Pena is batting .611, and Miller-Gomez is at .600. Meier leads the Rams in runs batted in with 11. Holguin has hit five doubles and scored 14 runs. The Rams have outscored their opponents 70-23.

The girls next play Thursday in the Gopher Classic in Florence.
