MHS volleyball opens season (GALLERY)

Maricopa High School’s varsity volleyball team made its debut at the 6A level this week.

The Rams lost three matches, though able to win a game from Mountain Pointe. The Mesa Jackrabbits defeated Maricopa Monday 25-12, 25-16, 25-9. That was followed by the 3-1 home loss to Mountain Pointe.

Wednesday, MHS lost to Hamilton on the road, 25-3, 25-6, 25-14.

The Rams host winless Liberty on Tuesday. With teams staying relatively close to home due to COVID-19, Maricopa will not compete against teams in its new region, Desert Southwest, this season. Those schools are in Yuma and Tucson.

Several MHS sports moved up to 6A from 5A this year.
