Middle school promotes 297 eighth graders in Friday morning ceremony

Maricopa Wells Middle School hosted promotion ceremonies for 297 eighth graders Friday morning in a Hollywood stars themed event.

National Junior Honor Society Vice President Travis Sharp led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the National Anthem, sung by Brittney Beighey.

Student Council President K. J. Diehl and Vice President Anthony Beltran thanked teachers, coaches, administration and staff, as well as parents, for their support of the eighth grade class.

They explained that, as the first class to be promoted from the new school, their grades have improved, and they have received lots of sports awards. “Plus we have our own cafeteria now,” the two boys added.

“We are no longer Panthers,” Diehl told his classmates. “We are now the Rams.” In fact, these eighth graders will be the high school graduating class of 2011.

Beltran and Christopher Silvia were recognized for being the only two students in the class to have earned all A grades.

Phethida Thounsavat was named Outstanding Female Student, and Tyler Owings was the Outstanding Male Student.
