A man on a motorized scooter stopped Wednesday by police for allegedly running stop signs and a red light had a warrant out for his arrest.

Demetrius D. Davis, 30, was charged with reckless driving, failure to provide identification and driving on a suspended or revoked license, police said.

At about 4:10 p.m., police observed Davis failing to stop at stop signs near West Garvey Avenue and North Maricopa Road, police said.

Davis was also observed by police to run the red light at State Route 347 and West Alterra Parkway while several cars were already in the intersection, according to a probable cause statement.

Police stopped Davis near SR 347 and West Bowlin Road and informed him of his infractions.

Davis allegedly told officers that traffic laws did not apply to him because he was not in a motor vehicle, and that he did not need to provide officers with his identity, the probable cause statement said.

Officers told Davis that failing to provide identification is a criminal violation, and that he would be arrested if he failed to do so. Davis continued to refuse and was arrested, police said.

Police found Davis’s identification card in his wallet. A records check on his name turned up a pre-adjudication warrant for Davis, police said.

Davis was booked into Pinal County Jail, police said.
