Ex-boyfriend charged in shooting

Maricopa Police arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a woman on Friday.

Adam J. Youngkin, 35, of Maricopa, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count misconduct involving weapons, according to MPD. He was transported to Pinal County Jail.

Police were called to the 43000 block of West Cahill Drive at about 2 a.m. Friday in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a woman lying in the street with a shotgun wound to her torso. The officers detained two men of interest and the woman was transported to a hospital in Phoenix. She sustained nonlife-threatening injuries and did not require surgery.

Evidence at the scene indicated the woman, who was identified as Youngkin’s ex-girlfriend, had been shot with a 12-gauge shotgun. A search warrant was executed at her residence, and a shotgun and several rounds of ammunition believed to have been used in the assault were found.
