Three auto thefts were reported to the Maricopa Police Department over the weekend, according to police blotters.

On Friday morning, a 1997 Chevy “dually” pickup truck was reported stolen during the night from a driveway at a residence on West Maricopa Avenue. Later that day, a 2010 Toyota Corolla was reported stolen from a store on North John Wayne Parkway.

On Saturday, a 1999 Volvo S70 was reported stolen from Walmart on the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

Regardless of year, make or model, every vehicle is a potential target for theft and/or burglary.

MPD advises four layers of protection to keep your vehicle safe. The more layers of protection on your vehicle, the more difficult it is to steal.

LAYER 1

• Always lock your car, close windows, and use emergency brake
• Remove your keys from vehicle and never leave vehicle running unattended
• Never leave valuables in vehicle or in plain sight
• Park in well-lit areas
• Report suspicious activity by calling 911

LAYER 2

The second layer of protection is a visible or audible device that alerts thieves that your vehicle is protected. Popular second layer devices include:

• Steering wheel locks
• Brake pedal locks
• Hood Locks
• Alarm Systems
• License plate locks
• Tire and wheel locks
• Theft deterrent decals – free Watch Your Car Program
• Identification markers in or on vehicle
• Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etching on window glass
