The Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board could vote Wednesday to approve the proposed $31.4 million budget for the upcoming school year.
The district is scheduled to hold a public hearing and vote to officially adopt the budget at the July 25 board meeting.
The board will vote whether to approve and certify for the following:

The board is also scheduled to vote on hiring three additional teachers to reduce class size.
In its work session, the board will discuss four budget override options:
Option No. 1 is a 5 percent override for seven years, which would reduce class size by hiring 19 additional teachers at a cost of $1 million. The override would also provide $350,000 for instructional technology at a total of $1.35 million.
Option No. 2 is a 7 percent override for seven years to reduce class size by hiring 28 additional teachers at a cost of $1.2 million. This plan would also hire additional fine arts and foreign language teachers – three elementary, two middle and one high school teacher – at a cost of $300,000. It would provide $450,000 toward instructional technology for a total of $1.95 million.
Option No. 3 is a 9 percent override for seven years to reduce class size by hiring 28 additional teachers at a cost of $1.5 million. The override would also pay for additional fine arts and foreign language teachers – four elementary teachers, two middle school teachers, and two high school high school teachers – at a cost of $400,000. It would provide $530,000 for instructional technology for a total of $2.43 million.
Option No. 4 is a 15 percent override for seven years to reduce class size by hiring 51 additional teachers at a cost of $2.67 million. The override would pay for hiring additional fine arts/foreign language teachers – four elementary teachers, two middle school teachers, and two high school high school teachers – at a cost of $400,000. It would provide $975,000 for instructional technology for a total of $4.05 million.
