Parents, guardians and interested community members can learn about the Maricopa Unified School District’s safety policies and offer feedback during a school-safety forum 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 10.

“We’ve had a lot of questions about school safety because of the tragedy in Connecticut,” said Steve Chestnut, MUSD superintendent.

The forum is being held in conjunction with the Maricopa Police Department.

Chestnut and Police Chief Steve Stahl will present an overview of safety issues in the community. The district’s current safety plan will be outlined.

“An educated public is a powerful public,” Stahl said.

The forum is a chance “to show some of the work that’s already been done by the police, fire department and school district,” he said.

Chestnut said the forum will give residents “an opportunity to share ideas.”

Attendees will be able to work in small groups and discuss specific safety issues and offer suggestions for improvement.

The forum will take place in the MUSD administration office, 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.
