The Maricopa Unified School District released a new school schedule for the 2013-2014 school year Thursday, pushing the start times for high school and some elementary schools by five minutes.

Maricopa, Butterfield, Saddleback and Santa Cruz elementary schools will start at 8:05 a.m. and end at 3:10 p.m. On early-release days, classes will end at 1:10 p.m.

Maricopa High School will run 7:10 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Early-release days will see students get out at 12:20 p.m.

Early-release days will be the first and third Wednesdays of the month.

The two middle schools will run 9 a.m. to 4:10 p.m.

“With grade six going to the elementary we do not have enough buses to start all elementary schools at the same time,” MUSD Superintendent Steve Chestnut said.

“All schools needed to change to make the bus schedule work,” he said.

The MUSD school board voted earlier this year to move sixth graders from the two middle schools into the elementary schools.

Santa Rosa and Pima Butte elementary schools will start at 8:30 and end at 3:35 p.m.
