No voter re-registration due to ZIP code changes

County Recorder Laura Dean-Lytle announced last week that voters who are registered in the areas affected by upcoming ZIP code changes will not have to re-register.

“That’s a common misconception,” the county recorder said. “The Voter Registration/Early Voting departments have the ability to automatically update voter’s records to include the new zip codes.”

Dean-Lytle said that it will not be necessary for the recorder’s office to send out new Voter Identification Cards. To allow for sufficient transition time, the United States Postal Service has announced a one-year transition period. All records will be updated before the one-year grace period ends.

Effective July 1 the following communities will be affected by the ZIP code change: Arizona City, Casa Grande, Coolidge, Eloy, Florence, Kearny, Maricopa, Queen Creek, Red Rock, Stanfield, Superior and Winkelman.

Those with an 852 as the first three digits of their ZIP code will now have 851 instead. The last two digits will not change.
