The Rams fared well in a recent track competition.

Maricopa High School sophomore Brittany Parks had no trouble switching from basketball to track when she won the 100- and 200-meter dash Feb. 27 in the opening meet of the season.

Parks finished the 100-meter dash in 12.38 seconds and 200 in 25.89 seconds, both of which were faster than her times in last year’s Tournament of Champions competition.

The first-place finishes were the only wins for Maricopa at the Wickenburg Multiple, but the girls team did have five top-four finishers.

Crystal Neal finished third in the high jump and fourth in the shot put; Alyssa Joaquin finished third the 3,200 meter race and fourth in the 1,600 meter event; and Opal Vaughn finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.

The high school’s boys team was unable to win an event but placed second in both the 4×800 and 4×100 relays. As an individual, Vince Bailey placed fourth in the 100 meter dash, Dominique Johnson finished fourth in the 400 meter event, and J.J. Pearson came in second in the 300-meter hurdles.

Both teams finished fourth out of eight teams overall.

On Wednesday, the team traveled to Globe for its second meet, and will compete in the Ray Relays in Kearney on Saturday.
