A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and critically injured about 10 a.m. Friday in the Homestead neighborhood.

According to authorities, a man believed to be in his mid- to late-30s was struck while crossing the road in an undesignated crossing area, near the North Porter Road entrance. Fire and medical personnel responded to the scene and police blocked off the entrance from traffic.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a Level 1 trauma center for treatment, said Brad Pitassi, assistant chief and spokesperson for the Maricopa Fire/Medical Department.

Ricardo Alvarado, a spokesperson for the Maricopa Police Department, said driver impairment was not suspected as a factor in the accident. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene until the police arrived.

The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be provided as it becomes available, police said.
