An elderly woman who died last night after being struck by a car on Honeycutt Road just west of Taft has been identified as Aurora Combs, 80, a Maricopa resident.

Combs was hit by a car while crossing Honeycutt some time after 7 p.m. When fire units arrived on scene at 7:20 p.m., Combs was suffering from multi-system trauma. “She was barely breathing and there was a lot of bleeding,” Pitassi said. A helicopter was called in as paramedics on scene worked quickly to stabilize the woman, but her condition continued to worsen and within minutes she stopped breathing and no longer had a pulse.

“She went into full trauma code, which means she had no heartbeat and was not breathing,” Pitassi said. The decision was made to transport Combs by ambulance to the trauma unit at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix where she was pronounced dead.

Combs was struck by a compact sedan driven by a male driver, according to Sgt. Stephen Judd of the Maricopa Police Department. Judd said there was no indication of alcohol being involved. A female occupant in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and care. The driver was treated at the scene and released.

Judd said no citations or charges have been made at this time. He said it would take a week to 10 days for Maricopa Police to complete the investigation.
