A Casa Grande man with multiple outstanding warrants was arrested Tuesday on several new charges after he fled authorities and crashed into a utility pole.

A Pinal County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle west of Casa Grande at State Road 84 and Guinn for canceled insurance.

The driver, Frank Jerome Morris, 19, failed to yield and immediately accelerated. The deputy pursued the vehicle until the driver started driving recklessly at which point he terminated the pursuit.

Morris lost control of the vehicle a short time later and crashed into a utility pole west of Bianco Road. As the deputy pulled up to the crash scene, Morris exited the vehicle and ran north into the desert. The deputy gave chase on foot and was able to catch Morris after a few hundred yards and take him into custody. While Morris was running from the deputy, he dropped a loaded .45 caliber pistol.

Morris later complained about injuries from the crash and was taken to Maricopa Medical Center. Morris was released from the hospital a short time later and booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for five outstanding warrants from drug and weapon offenses. All the warrants listed him as having a known history of gang association.

Morris also was charged with felony flight, possession of marijuana, criminal damage, felony misconduct with a weapon (prohibited possessor) and possession of a weapon during a drug offense.
