Police arrested a Maricopa man on Tuesday evening in connection with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

A Maricopa police officer attempted to stop a cyclist for improper lane use at approximately 11:45 p.m. Tuesday near John Wayne Parkway and Edison Road. The man, identified as Jesus Moreno, 26, made an obscene gesture to the officer before riding away on his bicycle across John Wayne Parkway.

Another officer attempted to stop Moreno, who continued making obscene gestures while riding his bicycle for a short distance before abandoning it and getting on his knees. Just before his arrest, Moreno allegedly told officers he had warrants for his arrest and was in possession of drugs. Officers later found methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia that tested positive for the drug.

Moreno was arrested and charged with possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to comply with officers and resisting arrest. Moreno has a Feb. 7 court date in Pinal County Superior Court in Florence.
